Koi Pond - A Surprisingly Entertaining App

I was skeptical at first, thinking this was just one of those dumb 99 cent apps. But no, Koi Pond is actually a pretty cool app for the iPhone and iPod Touch, and one that will certainly keep me (and the kids) entertained.

The interaction with the Koi fish includes several features. First, you can scare them off by disrupting the waters, by far the best part (who doesn’t like scaring away animals?). On the opposite end of the spectrum, if you keep your finger in one place long enough, they’ll actually congregate at your finger and do something (do Koi like to eat fingers?). Give your iPhone or iPod Touch a good shake to feed the Koi. Grab the water lillies with your finger and move them around however you want to arrange them too. You can even customize the sounds.

Definitely a great job in getting objects to respond to the touch interface (both the water and the fish). The app will remember your settings even after you close out of the app.

Is it worth 99 cents? I think so, it’s one of those apps that is great for showing friends how cool your iPhone is too. If you’re visual like me, watch the video below to get a feel for the app.

UPDATE: The kids LOVE Koi Pond. As I type my 4 year old daughter is feeding the fish. She loves it!

Yeah my 19 month old son loves it too. I’m a big gamer, but these types of interactive mediums are all he can comprehend right now until he’s older.
