Tweetie - Best Twitter App on the iPhone
If you use Twitter, and you have an iPhone, you need Tweetie. Early in the days of iPhone apps I proclaimed Twitterrific the best Twitter app, but it has now been dethroned by Tweetie. Yes, it is $2.99 more than free, but in my opinion, worth every penny.
The first thing you will notice is how fast and responsive Tweetie is. No waiting, it just delivers the goods. You can quickly look at all the things you need (timeline, replies, directs, my directs), and even view links in a built-in browser, with the option to tweet the link (love it!) or open it in Safari. Taking a picture or grabbing one from your photo gallery is standard, with a nice retake option. What’s cool is the picture is compressed, then uploaded to TwitPic.com.
The really cool feature is having “search” built in. I use TweetBeep.com (ok and I built it) to track whenever someone tweets “gotapps”, “tweetbeep”, “@mdjensen“, or anything else about me or my companies, but this is a great way to browse different searches on the go, and Tweetie will even save your searches for easy access later.
You can have multiple accounts on there, and switching back and forth is rather simple.
Hard to find anything bad to say, but the only thing I could think of would be that the links should be clickable from the timeline, not just the “view” of the tweet.
Great job to @atebits for a fantastic iPhone app!

Nice review. One question. Have you compared this to Twittelator Pro. That is what I currently use and am quite happy with it.

I also wonder how it compares to Twittelator Pro, which I use and overall love.

I tried Twittelator Pro but I still think Tweetie wins for a really intuitive interface and super fast response. If you love it already, might as well stick with it, the features seem to be pretty much on the same playing field.

I too have been relatively happy with Twittelator pro. It is full featured, but the web browser is rather crash prone and some of interface elements are ugly, or hard to use, e.g. the tiny buttons that activate a link. I like the style of Twitterriffic, and use it on my computer, but find it too limited on the iPhone. My favourite (until Tweetie came along) was Twitterfon. Fast, stable and ergonomically sound … but with too many features missing. Now, I have tried Tweetie, and although I’m not the biggest fan of speech bubbles, it is definitely the finest iPhone twitter client I’ve tried. Very slick. Very intuitive and easy to use. To marks!

I’ve been using tweetsville recently. I like the interface more, and both seem to share the exact same set of features (built in search, trends, etc.). I was using Twitteriffic Pro prior to this, but it slower, and lacking in some of the nicer features these two apps offer.

I still think Tweetsville is the best. The threaded direct messages is awesome and I like being able to move the bottom buttons around.

I use twittelator pro and the interface elements are not ‘ugly’ or hard to use. It has many advanced features including threading of @ conversations by double tapping on the message with the @ reply in it. Make tweetie free and I will try it out and really decide which one is better, until then I am sticking with what works and is perfect.

smells like someone got paid off by tweetie to review their product….this is far from the best one.

Couldn’t agree more…Tweetie makes Twittering on the iPhone fun again. There are many (good) Twitter apps for the iPhone but Tweetie’s interface is slick, clean, intuitive, and most of all…functional. The app runs flawlessly with no crashes - especially when I’m uploading images.
