Where To? - Cool Interface, Little Value

Being a “local search guy” and all, I really like trying new “local” apps. I think by now I’ve tried them all, even all of the paid apps. I heard quite a bit of hype for Where To? and even an advertisement on a popular mac site. So I bought it and tried it, and here are my thoughts.

The interface and graphics are very cool, making it very easy to find whatever you need from their icon donut. But then comes the disappointing part, after choosing a sub category, I can search near “where I am now” or from the existing location in Maps, or one of my contacts, or some other location I type in, and then it feeds a query into the Maps app. Now don’t get me wrong, Maps is probably my most used next to Email and SMS, but I just spent $2.99 for a product and it just helps me type a query in Maps? Disappointing.

It has an option for “favorites” which is nice, except they also pre-fill it with all these favorites that aren’t really your favorites. The list of “recents” is very handy.

Overall I was disappointed and was hoping for something more innovative. That’s not to say I will just delete it, for the app has merit when you’re searching for something but not really sure what it’s called.

Try Where To? for $2.99 if you think it has value for you!
